Nova Terra Map: Regions

Nova Terra itself is divided up into three continents, the largest claimed by natives, the second in size by the human expedition that settled on the planet, the final - and least desirable - by the wildlife.

The other two continents are explored in a story I started back in 2015. Wayward Bound takes place a very long time after the events that the writing covers and is based on the results of the human influence on the world. To sum it all up, the humans were invested in genetic engineering and screwed up big time when a few of their experiments went wrong. A plague went viral and wiped out the majority of the human population, forcing the survivors to got off world. They left their creations behind and vanished.

In the final phases of leaving the planet, the humans transported their favored companions over to the remaining continent in the hopes that the Hyperions, Savages, and dao would be able to make a better living for themselves in land untouched by devastation. The "dogs" (dao) weren't the only that were moved, but I'll go into the others at another time.

The dao spread out quickly after initial hesitation and settled into their own separate territories

The Northern Bands:
- The canines up here live in groups known as bands
- Typically there would be five to ten in any one band at a time
- Answer to a top band of three, but mostly left to their own devices
- Mountainous region, always cold but hardly snows
- Hunting is poor at best, the dao are used to hunger
- Little vegetation
- Cave networks serve as shelter
- Masters of fire and forging due to rich mineral deposits
- Apex predator = the sabre tooths

The Icebound Lands : Far extremes of the North
- A huge expanse of water frozen solid with chunks of land ringing the edges
- Almost always snowing
- Very few canines can survive up there
- Those who do have seeming immunity to the frigid temperatures
- Fish are their main food supply
- Take shelter in caves when needed, otherwise dig snow holes
- Apex predator = the cold

The Eastern Mercenaries:
- The canines here roam about as loners or small clan
- Typically there would be a max of three in a clan
- No leader system
- Top fighter takes command when uniting is necessary
- Plains region, always windy
- Hunting is difficult but plentiful, dao are skilled in patience
- Main vegetation consists of shrubs, tall grass, and weeds
- The rare tree/large rock serves as shelter
- Skilled in using just about anything as a tool
- Often hire out as mercenaries
- Apex predator = the dao

Central:
- A group of warrior females claimed this region
- Around twenty strong
- Two females work as the head of the pack
- Grassland
- Hunting is plentiful but fast, dao are skilled in endurance running
- Lots of vegetation
- Build bonfires and crowd around those for the nights
- Skilled in using just about anything as a tool
- Apex predator = the dao

The Western Empire:
- Canines here sectioned off the territory into Highlands and Lowlands
- Typically twenty to thirty in a village
- Ten villages leads to the West being the most populous region
- a separate division of warriors patrols between the groups
- Lead male and female call the shots
- Forested area, Mountain range along the coastline
- Hunting is plentiful but tricky, dao are skilled in tracking
- Lots of vegetation, trees in particular
- Build shelters with fallen trees
- Skilled in crafting/dyeing cloths
- Apex predator = the bears

The South:
- Currently uninhabitable due to an intense fire that swept the region
- Canines here used to live in a single tribe
- Typically fifteen to twenty at any given time
- Bare surroundings, framed by an intense ocean
- Prey is small, dao ate frequently but very little at a time
- Extremely scarce vegetation
- Took shelter around the rocky coast
- Skilled in swimming and star navigation
- Apex predator = the sea
